What do I need to do to prepare prior to my freshman year?
Students entering the undergraduate program take high school courses in mathematics through pre-calculus, a year of chemistry, physics, and English. High school programming or computer applications courses should not be taken in place of other college preparatory courses.
Can I transfer from a community college?
Yes. Pre-engineering courses may be taken at any accredited college or university that offers equivalent courses that are transferable to Oregon State University. Students and advisors are urged to contact the College of Engineering's Undergraduate Programs office about the equivalency or transferability of all courses.
What are the requirements for admission to the professional program?
The admission criteria for upper division courses are:
- Application to professional program by deadline (April 10 for fall term; November 1 for winter term)
- Admission to Oregon State University
- Completion of all or all but one of the required pre-engineering courses with a C- or better, before the term for which they seek admission to the professional program
- Competitive GPA in required pre-engineering courses
- 80 hours of college-level courses completed
